Whether observing the Earth from space or measuring it directly on the ground, geodesists contribute essential knowledge for understanding our planet. They analyse the effects of climate change, survey landscapes and infrastructure, map mountain ranges, and create digital twins of the real world. Using digital maps, spatial data, and virtual models, geodesists monitor natural processes and human‑induced changes on the Earth’s surface. The interdisciplinary Master’s programme in Geodesy and Geoinformation prepares you for these diverse and future‑oriented tasks. It offers a broad range of applications and excellent career prospects in science, industry, and public administration. The programme is based on strong foundations in mathematics, computer science, and the natural sciences, forming a modern engineering education that combines theory with practical relevance. During your studies, you deepen and expand the factual and methodological knowledge acquired in your previous degree. By choosing individual specialisations aligned with your interests, you can shape your academic profile. Possible focus areas include engineering surveying, photogrammetry and remote sensing, earth surveying and satellite geodesy, cartography and geoinformatics, as well as land management and development. After successfully completing the programme, you will possess in‑depth technical and methodological skills to link, analyse, and communicate spatial data effectively. You will be able to model, visualise, interpret, and apply geospatial information, as well as evaluate different sensors and data analysis methods in relation to specific tasks. Furthermore, you will be capable of assessing the effort and workflows required for complex geodetic challenges and carrying out demanding projects independently. Graduates of the Master’s programme in Geodesy and Geoinformation are well prepared to turn spatial data into meaningful insights—and to communicate these insights responsibly for the benefit of society.
In the first semester, the course provides in-depth basic knowledge from all specialist areas of geodesy and geoinformation, i.e. geodesy and satellite geodesy, photogrammetry, remote sensing and cartography as well as engineering surveying, geoinformatics and land management. In the second and third semesters, technical and methodological knowledge from the selected study lines is taught. In addition to the selected compulsory programme of the three study lines, students must also choose courses from the other selected study lines. Supplementary elective courses and research-related project work allow for further specialisation. The fourth semester is dedicated to the Master's thesis. This is where the acquired knowledge and methodological skills come together.
