Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg (JMU), founded in 1402, is one of Germany's oldest universities and one of the country's fifteen major research-intensive universities (German U15), with a strong medical faculty and a history that includes Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen's discovery of X-rays there. It is a public research university offering a broad range of English-taught international master's programs alongside its German-taught degree offerings. As a German public university, JMU charges no tuition fees for most degree programs (only a semester contribution), though a small number of specialized programs such as the LL.M. Digitalization and Law require a program fee.

Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) is a public university of applied sciences with campuses in Würzburg and Schweinfurt, Bavaria, Germany. Around 9,300 students study across more than 50 bachelor's and master's programs in engineering, computer science, business and design, including several English-taught TWIN programs offered in parallel with German-language equivalents.
